HSES

Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (HSES) performance at Willbros is a key element for our business success in operational excellence and meeting client expectations. We fully understand that our reputation and safety implementation are valued by our clients and can be a major differentiator in contract awards.

As such, we have adopted a corporate-wide approach using a performance-based HSE system that maximizes empowerment in our business units, with vision and governance at our enterprise level. This methodology allows the units to customize an HSE approach that fits their client needs, specific regulatory and statutory requirements and market considerations, while aligning with our corporate governance model that forms a framework for both guiding and overseeing HSE performance.

The Willbros HSE approach is built on flexibility, simplicity, scalability and a collaborative structure that fits our company’s unique operation and style. Under Willbros’ HSE management system, business units serving our principal Upstream and Downstream Oil and Gas and Utility Transmission and Distribution markets assume the primary responsibility for safety compliance as well as assessing risks.

Through clear communication with employees, clients and other stakeholders, our units assure the control of the risks. A formal assessment measures and audits the effectiveness of those controls. Further, we are constantly self-assessing, tracking corrective actions and sharing best practices and lessons learned. Thorough management review and oversight complete the model.

We recognize that we always face risks and challenges in our business. We know, too, that our operations have an impact on the communities in which we work and on the environment. That is why our engineering designs, construction execution and maintenance procedures are all directed at protecting the environment, offering a healthy workplace and, above all, emphasizing our key Core Value of providing safety in everything we do.

We use six principles to guide our Value for safety and achieve our Vision for best-in-class safety performance:

1. Safety is about leadership and leadership isn’t about what’s in your title: It’s about what is in your character.We will always strive to get better.
2. When we fall short in our expectations, we’ll find out why. When we succeed, we’ll find how to reproduce that success elsewhere.
3. We will not compromise even in the face of great pressure on the time and discipline it takes to properly plan and execute our work in the safest way practical.
4. Stopping unsafe work isn’t a right given to us by someone else. Stopping unsafe work is an obligation that we hold ourselves and each other to.
5. Production done in the absence of safety will not be valued or rewarded. Period.
6. Great safety isn’t just about policies and procedures. Great safety is about openness, honesty, involvement, communication and caring for one another.
