Community Involvement

Willbros is committed to supporting and participating in the communities in which we live and work. It is important to our people, our neighbors, customers, suppliers and fellow Canadians to be part of the fabric of the local community with the intention of building relationships and supporting initiatives both financially and through our actions.

Aboriginal Community Investment

Willbros Canada sustains an ongoing maintenance-based presence in the Wood Buffalo Region and throughout Western Canada, and is one of the most proactive contractors to further employment opportunities of local communities and Aboriginal persons in the oil-sands industry.

We are committed to building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with Aboriginal communities by developing strategies that provide appropriate opportunities to improve employment and business relations.

Willbros Canada’s Aboriginal Relations Policy provides a consistent approach to the Company’s relationships with Aboriginal individuals and communities. Part of our commitment is to support organizations dedicated to promoting the full participation of Aboriginal communities in the Canadian economy.

We work closely with the Aboriginal Human Resource Council (AHRC) to develop training for our employees in the history of Indigenous people, intercultural competency, human rights and anti-racism. The training program launched in May 2016, was one of the first to address the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) recommendations for business in its December 2015 report.

Willbros Canada is also an associate member of the Northeastern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association (NAABA), since 2013.
